Mt. Jo (2/9 Lake Placid Winter 9er)

Mt. Jo was the second of the Winter Lake Placid 9er challenge that we did. We actually did this the same day as Cobble Hill on Dec 29th. After we finished Cobble Hill, we drove over to the ADK Loj to tackle Mt. Jo.

Mt. Jo is a 2 mile hike that climbs 692 ft of elevation. A short steep hike overlooking Heart Lake just south of Lake Placid. After you park at the ADK Loj (reminder - to park here is $10 for non members) you cross the street by the parking booth and begin your hike.

For about .3 miles you walk on flat path where you'll come to a trail junction that points to the left for "long trail" and right for "short trail", because this was our second hike of the day - we opted for the shorter route.

The shorter route offers a fun, steep rock scramble for the majority of the ascent. Over the short mile ascent to the summit - you climb a good amount of elevation so this a steep climb!

The nice part about Mt. Jo is that while you are climbing this scramble, there are lots of gorgeous look outs and views during your climb.

The summit is a wide open summit with beautiful views of the MacIntyre range. It was a chilly afternoon - so we didn't stay too long, but this summit would be a beautiful one to hang out at during the summer!

Another one in the books! Mt. Jo for 2/9 of the Lake Placid Winer 9er challenge ... up next Pitchoff!
